Important Notes on the Grading Scheme

The total numerical grade determined on the basis of the above percentages will be the key factor, but not the only factor, in assigning a final letter grade for the course. Among the other considerations that will apply is the fact that under normal circumstances a passing grade for the course will not be given unless the student has clearly made an honest effort to complete all parts of the course. This means that any student who ignores the assignments, the projects, the lab work, or the mid-term test, does so at his or her own peril. Also, no student who fails both the mid-term and the final exam (i.e. , who receives less than 50% on both), or who receives less than 40% on the final exam, will receive a passing grade in the course. Attendance, although it is not allotted any direct point value, is also regarded as compulsory. Your final grade in the course will be based on performance and achievement, not on effort alone, no matter how gargantuan that effort.  For students who do very well on the final exam, but who for good reason have faltered in some other part of the course, some allowance may be made, but this cannot be made more specific before the fact.
