Bio



Dr. Somayeh Kafaie is an Assistant Professor at Saint Mary's University. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University, BeikoLab (2020-2021) working with Prof. Robert Beiko and in the Computer Science Department of Memorial University (2017-2019). She received her PhD from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Memorial University (2017), working with Prof. Ting Hu and Prof. Yuanzhu Chen .

Her research focuses on networks and their application in areas such as communication and biology. She is interested in studying the global and local behaviour of networks, applying machine learning models on graphs, and designing explainable systems. Her research interests include complex networks, knowledge graphs, Explainable AI, and bioinformatics.

She has won several awards, including Best Editor (IEEE WCL), Fellow of School of Graduate Studies (Memorial University), and Graduate Student Union award for Excellence in Teaching.
